Codot now offers lightning-fast always-on connection to the Internet.
Codot has always been one of the fastest ISPs in the UK, invariably featuring
in Internet Magazine's web hosting rankings. The fastest has just got faster,
offering ADSL connection direct to our backbone. Now you can download at speeds
of up to 2Mbps. Up to 40 times the speed of a modem, and no call charges? It
all sounds too good to be true. And it was until we hooked up to BT's national
ATM network to deliver this new technology to selected parts of the
country. ADSL stands for Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line, and it is delivered over your standard telephone line. Codot arranges the installation of three boxes that transform your standard phone line into a super-fast data line. You can still make phone calls, even when you are online, though the phone calls are still charged by BT in the standard way. It is Asynchronous because the download and upload speeds are different, maximising on the available capacity of the line. The upload speed is 256Kbps, whereas the download speed is selectable, from 512Kbps to a blistering 2Mbps. ADSL is unsuitable for web hosting, as ADSL is a variable bit-rate system. The available bandwidth for uploading may change, slowing the server performance. Downloading, however will be an altogether new experience. Drawing on Codot's proven network speed, you will be able to access the coming generation of multimedia applications in a flash. Because ADSL is an always-on network connection, you'll be able to receive your email as soon as it is sent. And you won't be looking at the clock, as your connection is the same price regardless of how long you are connected.
